Raiders add New Player Training for Next Season

The Raiders are excited to announce that they will be offering individual overspeed
training for players on all Raiders teams beginning in the summer of 2018 plus partnership with the Complete Performance Centre which will provide an integrated and coordinated off-ice training program for all Raider team starting in the 2018-2019 season.

The Raiders are excited to announce that they will be offering individual overspeed training for players on all Raiders teams beginning in the summer of 2018.

Led by Danny Minnings, the coach of the 04 Raiders, the program offers players of all ages an excellent opportunity to develop their fundamental individual skills of skating, stick handling and shooting in a fun, very fast-paced two hour session.

 

The program was originally introduced to the Raiders through its association with OHL and Team Canada coach, Stan Butler. Stan says:

 

"I am a great believer in overspeed training. I have used it on both sides of the continent and the results have been outstanding. I have watched some of the best players in the world use this and they really enjoyed it and believed in the benefits they received. What's great 

for minor hockey coaches is that it can be used at every level or age group that you happen to be coaching. This type of training will push all your players to the best of their abilities."

 

Raiders graduates Devin Shore ( Dallas Stars) and Drake Caggiula ( Edmonton Oilers) regularly attended Stan's overspeed training sessions for four summers.

 

Overspeed training uses a series of simple, rapid drills that improve:

 

ü  skating and stickhandling at high speeds

 

ü  quick feet and lateral movement

 

ü  shooting speed and accuracy while skating

 

ü  cardio-facular fitness

 

Each session will involve one hour of overspeed training and one hour of scrimmage or small-ice games. Players from two teams will be on the ice in each session. The sessions do not depend on full teams being there so absences for vacations and other commitments are easily accommodated.

 

The overspeed training will run during July and August. The final schedule will be determined after tryouts. Note that the sessions will be run during the morning or afternoon, leaving the evenings open for summer sports or  other activities.

The Raiders are excited to announce our partnership with the Complete Performance Centre which will provide an integrated and coordinated off-ice training program for all Raider team starting in the 2018-2019 season. Our partnership with CPC is one of several steps the Raiders are taking to provide the best development opportunities possible for our players.


CPC has had the opportunity to work with many Raiders teams in the past, including the two-time OMHA champion 04s, and has also worked closely with exceptional former Raiders players such as Drake Caggiula (North Dakota, Edmonton Oilers), Dan Renouf (University of Maine, Detroit Red Wings), Brennan Serville (3rd round Winnipeg Jets, University of Michigan), Tim Ernst (Brown U), Rob Powers (Robert Morris), Jeremy Wu (Mercyhurst) and Adam Valado (Curry College).


Richard Karikari and his staff at  CPC have also spent countless hours working 1on1 and in small group sessions with  former Raiders and many other hockey players, as well as athletes in other sports, who have excelled in their sports and gone on to achieve amazing results in their careers. CPC is justifiably proud of its outstanding work with elite athletes who continually entrust its knowledgeable and hard-working staff to get them where they need to be physically through its training program.We look forward to working in partnership with CPC to provide the elite training specially designed for the players in our organization.


We will be announcing the date of an upcoming open house for all Raider players at CPC's state of the art facility.
