The AAA Minor Peewee Ajax Pickering Raiders Do It Again!
Submitted By Derek Achue on Tuesday, December 24, 2013
For the second year in a row, the Raiders emerge as the Quinte Cup Champions. The determined team would not be denied successfully defending the title they won in similar fashion just 12 months ago.
The Raiders did not take the easy route having to win all three games on Sunday in multiple overtimes. In the quarter finals it took seven periods of hockey to decide a winner versus the Hamilton Huskies. In the semi-finals the young team had to avenge an earlier round robin loss to the Burlington Eagles winning 6-5 in double overtime.
Like the game’s leading up to the finals, the championship game would not disappoint against OMHA rivals, the Kingston Frontenacs. Relinquishing a 4-1 lead going into the third period, the character group once again found themselves needing extra periods to decide a winner. The exhausted group would eventually go on to score the winning goal in the sixth period of the game, and the 18th period of the day.
