Atom Team Conquer Quinte Agian

It was a Thanksgiving feast for the 2003 Ajax Pickering Raiders Atom AAA Hockey Team sponsored by Moxie’s Bar Grill as they repeated as Champions at the Quinte Cup Hockey Tournament October 11-13.

Starting with round robin play the Raiders had 3 solid wins over Glouchester, Skaneateles and the Central Ontario Wolves. The 3 straight wins, allowing only 1 goal against gave the Raiders the #1 seed and set up the semi final game against Glouchester who the team had beaten 7-0 earlier in the tournament. The Raiders got off to a slow start and were down 3-0 just barely into the second period but scored 4 straight goals to take a 4-3 lead on a hat trick by Liam Arnsby and a single by Ryan Gardner. The game ended tied 5-5 and went to overtime with Josh Simpson scoring to give the Raiders a 6-5 victory. This win put the Raiders into the finals against the home town Quinte Red Devils for the second straight year. The game was a hard fought checking affair but at the end of play the Raiders came out with a 3-0 win on another shutout by Jason Clements his 2nd of the tournament. Hayden Candler also collected a shutout in game 2 of the round robin with a solid outing in a 2-0 win over Skaneateles.


When asked about their victory, Coach John Petsinis mentioned that we were patient, kept it simple and that he was very impressed with the team’s commitment to defensive hockey. We played as a team, our motto is “It takes 17” and that is how the boys played.


Congratulations to goalies: Hayden Candler and Jason Clements, Defencemen: Domenic Arabia, Thomas Gibson, Nicolaus Huebel, Jake Hutchison, Blake Petsinis and Kassey Rosendaal. Forwards: Liam Arnsby, Eric Edwards, Ryan Gardner, Gavin Harkness, Nathan Raymer, Everett Shimwell, Joshua Simpson, Lucas Stevenson and Noah Theodor.


Congratulations and thanks also goes out to our Coaching staff – Assistant Coaches Mike Chersey and Rob Huebel, Trainer John Gibson, Goalie Coach Bob Candler, Manager Walt Arnsby and Coach John Petsinis.
